Sono state comunicate le nomination per i British Independent Film Awards del 2016. Il premio, nato nel 1998 da un'idea di Elliot Grove, punta a celebrare il cinema indipendente britannico, dai registi già formati ai nuovi talenti, per promuovere la filmografia inglese presso un pubblico più ampio.

Quest'anno a guidare le nomination troviamo Io, Daniel Blake, il nuovo film di Ken Loach, vincitore della Palma d'Oro a Cannes, con 7 candidature. A seguire American Honey di Andrea Arnold, Under the Shadow di Babak Anvari e Adult Life Skills di Rachel Tunnard si fermano a 6.
Naomie Harris riceverà il Variety Award, assegnato a una personalità che ha aiutato il cinema britannico a essere sotto i riflettori internazionali. Tra i passati vincitori, Kate Winslet, Benedict Cumberbatch, Helen Mirren e Michael Caine.
I vincitori verranno annunciati nella storica sede dell'Old Billingsgate domenica 4 Dicembre.
