La prima serata degli Emmy Awards si è rivelata un trionfo per Il trono di spade, che ha portato a casa ben nove riconoscimenti - segnando così un record importante, quello riservato al drama che ha vinto più riconoscimenti nella storia del premio e ha superato serie come West Wing. Meno riconoscimenti, ma grandi soddisfazioni anche per American Crime Storyy: The People v. OJ Simpson , che invece ha vinto quattro premi. Tre serie che invece hanno vinto il loro primo Emmy sono Jessica Jones e Mr. Robot - entrambi in categorie musicali - e Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Non sono mancati piccoli colpi di scena durante la cerimonia con la vittoria di Peter Scolari come guest star di Girls. L'attore non aveva neanche ricevuto una candidatura, ma è entrato in gioco nel momento in cui è stato stabilito che Peter MacNicol non era tecnicamente eleggibile per Veep, visto che è apparso in più episodi e quindi non può essere definito una guest star. Una sorpresa che è stata accolta con emozione da Scolari, che da "tutta una vita" aspettava un momento come questo, tra alti e bassi della propria carriera.
Chissà che la seconda parte della premiazione (che andrà in onda stasera negli USA) non riserverà ulteriori sorprese. Nell'attesa ecco il primo elenco dei premiati.
